Flag Day is June 14th?

What does this holiday mean exactly?

It’s the day we celebrate our flag’s birthday.

Believed to be originated in 1885 by a schoolteacher in Freedonia, Wisconsin, the idea was further supported by a New York kindergarten teacher in 1889.

Eventually, President Woodrow Wilson officially established Flag Day as a National Holiday on May 30,1916.

However, our first flag was approved on June 14,1977.

Congress stated that the number of stripes would stay at 13 (for our 13 original colonies) and the stars would reflect the number of overall states.

Our flag is also known as “Old Glory” or the “Stars and Stripes”.
