THE NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW REGULATIONS
The City of Austin loves their food trucks.
But, as this industry grows, so must its regulations.
Biggest change: operators must register their central preparation facility with the city.
CENTRAL PREPS
For those that don’t realize it, not all food trucks prepare their food in the truck.
There just isn’t room or the required equipment.
So, the food is actually prepared in a brick and mortar kitchen.
Here, the food is prepped and the waste is disposed.
Operators also use water from here.
THE PRICE
As with many regulations, there’s a price to this.
For Austin food truck operators, it is $50 per facility.
OTHER RULES INCLUDE:
- One person from every business must undergo 8 hours of food management training.
- Also, all restaurant employees must pass a food handler training course.
